There is no reason to give your baby water until 6 months – if you are breastfeeding most of that is water so there is no reason to give your baby any additional water…it just fills up there stomach for nothing. They need nourishment whther it is in the mom’s fbreastmilk or with the formula. Just plain water does not do anythng for your baby at all. As long as your infant is drinking you don’t need to worry about him/her getting dehydrated no matter how warm it is outside. Filed under: Babies Health Comments: 1 Comment |

I am not all that tall at all and my husband is ove average male size. But my brother is very very tall so I am hoping somewhere in there is a gene that makes you tall in my children. I would love it if they were all around 5’9” or so. That would be perfect. I have heard that you can take the height of them when they are 2 and double it and that will be the height that they will be when they are finished growing. So I have been having broccoli with my meals because I just like it and it is really quite good for you. Well….I am nursing and my baby just does not like it. He is just so gassy it is unbeliveable. So I am going to stay away from the broccoli for a while. My other kids didn’t have a problem with it but he does. Every baby is different so you just go back to eating things you like and if they don’t like them then you just have something else. Filed under: Breastfeeding and Babies Health Comments: None |

Here is something that may sound very weird but I knew that my 18 month old had an ear infection because he ear was smelling foul. If you have ever had a dog that has had long ears they are more prone to ear infections and problems and their ears stink unless they are treated. Well, I was holding my daughter and she had just taken a bath and I washed her hair that morning but something was stinking…it was her ear. And sure enough after I had brought her to the doctors she had a very early stage of an ear infection. Filed under: Babies Health Comments: None |

You should not feed your baby water because it fills up your babies stomach to quickly. Until your baby starts getting teeth it is not necessary because your baby is getting plenty hydrated and their water through breast milk and formula. Always talk to your pediatrician to talk about all of your concerns. But even in the hot summer months as long as your regularly feeding and nursing your baby you should be all set. I love gold bond medicated powder. It helped clear up my infection very quickly. I have actually used this on my childrens diaper rash and it has worked really good. I personally do not like to use powder on my babies when they had their diapers changed but with bad diaper rash this stuff really works great! I also prefer desitin over balmex! I was reading up on how filthy a pacifier can get. be sure to wash and take care of your babies pacifies. You would be amazed at how many germs that can get on them. Be sure to wash them and boil them and just get rid of them and replace them. Personally, I think that pacifiers should not be used more than 3 months. They are relativiely cheap so just replace them. It is healthier in the long run I think. Filed under: Babies Health Comments: None |

Everyone loves a nice massage – even a 3 month old baby! A baby massage not only feels really nice for your baby but it may even be helping strengthen his/her immune system, muscle development, and growth. Not to mention that it definitely can ease colic in your baby and can keep a baby calm and relaxed. I personally wouldn’t try giving my baby a massage right after she eats or when she is crying a lot – because I’m pretty sure she’s not crying for a massage. But when she is quiet and right after her bath or before her bath I give her a nice baby massage. Personally I put some baby lotion on my hands for my little ones massage – and it smells so nice too! I love to sing to my baby so while I’m massaging her I am always either talking or singing to her. When I rub her cheeks, ears, shoulders, and even nose, I do so in tiny circular motions. When I massage her hands and feet I use my thumbs to gently massage the arch or her foot. When I massage her arms and legs I use the palm of my hand. I had been told once that you never want to press or massage harder than you would press on your own eyelids. And lastly I put her on her tummy for a little tummy time – also helps strengthen her neck muscles, and gently rub her back in a circular motion. A baby massage also makes your baby feel loved and even safe. Never force your baby to stay in a certain position though. Other benefits I have heard or read about of an infant massage include: Not to mention it’s just a nice way to create a stronger bond and spend more quality time with your baby!! My friend had a baby 6 months ago and the baby has acid reflux – I never knew that this could happen in babies. So I went on a quest to find alternative methods of treatments for her. And personally I would get a second opinion if my infant was diagnosed with this. *You don’t want your baby to roll over while sleeping on it’s stomach but putting the baby on it’s back could cause him/her to choke – I’ve read that the left side is the best for a baby with reflux. *You can also get a snuggle nest to prevent the baby from turning over. I actually got one because my daughter who is 2 months, is sleeping right next to me and it just protects them. *And a crib wedge is also suggested because it is suppose to help the baby digest better. *Try switching formulas to a soy based formula (Although I strongly believe breastfeeding) *Don’t overfeed your baby – feed less but more often. *Also, make sure you burp the baby often during feedings and don’t lay the baby down right after he/she eats. The best time to cut a babies fingernails is when they are asleep and someone else is holding them. You have to cut their nails though because they are just so incredibly sharp and they end up with little scratches on their face because they don’t know better. They sell the baby fingernail clippers which are nice because they are smaller and they work great. Don’t forget to cut your babies nails! Filed under: Babies Health Comments: None |

Of course you want to make sure that you baby is growing at the right rate. And when you go to the doctors you get that percentile ratio that your child it in. Personally, I never really paid to much attention to what percentile they are in because it could change at any time. I don’t worry about that …one of the few things that I dont’ worry about! Here is a great chart that I do like to reference to just to see occasionally….http://www.mybirthcare.com/favorites/babygrowthchart.asp Filed under: Babies Health and Entertainment/Scrapbooking Comments: None |
