As a teacher I know how expensive the teacher supplies can be. And they really do add up so quickly. The state and school budgets give their teachers less and less money to spend for their classroom needs every year yet most of the teachers out there will spend a ton of money out of their own pockets all year round whether they are on bulletin board displays, stickers and other awards, pencils, educational toys, arts and crafts, rugs and other classroom necessities and other classroom decorations to just name a very few. Teachers do not get paid nearly what they should and sure there are teachers that are lazy and shouldn’t be there but that is like that in EVERY profession. Most teachers if they were to add it up at the end of the year will spend between $500-$1000 a year. I know my first 3 years of teaching I spent around $1000 a year…how many other professions spend money out of their own pockets for their jobs…not too many I would think. This is a great idea…Re-inventing Literacy Education with Words in Color. Finding new ways to help young children and even illiterate adults learn how to write and read. And this program has actually been used in home schools, classrooms and even within individual use for people that just want to learn. The English language can be very complicated for someone to learn especially if this is a second language for them. There are over 400 sound spellings in the English language so this program actually organizes them in colored groups. This way the students have that visual cue on which way letters and words sound like when they are spoken until it just becomes second nature to them and they do not need the help anymore. For a little child that is continuously frustrated with learning how to read and to write this is a great program to introduce to them. Sometimes the more traditional ways of teaching just does not work on all children. It is just the most convenient way to take the classes that I need in order to further my career. When you have children there is not a lot of time to actually go out to the schools to sit in that traditional classroom. And by taking classes online you will spend more time concentrating on your course work and less time sitting taking notes or in your car travelling to get to that school. And there is so much program information out there on the internet. I personally, have taken classes from the University of Wisconsin online program but I have read about the USC Rossier School of Ed’s MAT@USC. They also have full student benefits as well. Taking classes online when you are a working parent is so much more convenient and just easier when you are trying to manage and juggle your full time life, career and education!
